The Kern County Coroner’s Office says the man that was hit by a pickup while walking in the middle of Highway 99 near Olive Drive was 68-year-old Fernando De La Cruz of Bakersfield.

They say De La Cruz was hit at around 2:20 p.m. Saturday and died an hour later at Bakersfield Heart Hospital.
