A manhunt in northwest Bakersfield forced a 45-minute lockdown at Frontier High School and Veterans Elementary School.
Sgt. Joe Grubbs says officers were called to assist police at the high school on Olive Drive and Allen Road at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.
“It was originally reported that the individual had a knife,” he said. “Once officers got here, the individual fled the campus.”
Grubbs says the man gave the knife back to an officer before fleeing the scene, jumping the perimeter after escaping a Taser.
“He hands over a knife – a folding knife that was not opened or anything – hands that over to the police officer, then decides to take off from there and runs,” he said.
Police arrested 23-year-old Joshua Andrews on several charges later that afternoon.
