The man who died after being arrested by deputies outside his Mountain Mesa mobile home has been identified by the coroner’s office as 58-year-old Michael Lemon of Lake Isabella.
Ray Pruitt is a spokesman with the Kern County Sheriff’s Office and said Lemon was hospitalized before 6:30 a.m. Wednesday.
“We are asking that the public be patient while we conduct the investigation so we can attempt to determine the circumstances that led up to his death,” he said.
Pruitt said Lemon started having unspecified medical problems after being handcuffed.
“When the suspect was advised he was under arrest, he resisted and began fighting with the deputies,” he said.
He also said the two deputies used non-lethal force to arrest Lemon, but refused to elaborate.
The deputies, Brandon Geherty and Joshua Bechtel, are on paid administrative leave, Pruitt said.
