A Kern County library in east Bakersfield will celebrate its 100th birthday with face painting, a puppet theater and free refreshments.

The celebration at the Baker Branch Library at Baker and Oregon streets will get underway at noon Saturday with a flag-raising ceremony and the reading of a proclamation by Mayor Harvey Hall.
