The city council has deferred discussion of a possible ban on all fireworks, including so-called “safe-and-sane” fireworks, within Bakersfield limits to its legislation and litigation committee.

Vice Mayor Harold Hanson proposed the prohibition, citing concerns over safety and property damage. Those against the proposal on Wednesday said the restrictions would hurt non-profit fundraising.
