It was a day of memorials for Law Enforcement Week. Thursday began at 7:00 AM with the unveiling of a memorial for Bakersfield Police Officer David Nelson with his family watching on at police headquarters. At 10:00, the Kern County Sheriff’s Office remembered the 26 who died in the line of duty since the department’s founding and an service was held at the Liberty Bell in front of the courthouse for those from all local law enforcement agencies who paid the ultimate price. It was part of National Law Enforcement Week.
