As of Sunday night, the fire was more than 43,000 acres, or nearly 68 miles, and is 40% contained. The mild winds on Sunday were a big help despite temperatures near 100. Kern County Firefighters are hoping for full containment on Thursday. There are more than 2,000 firefighters from across the state on hand to battle the blaze.
At least 250 structures have been destroyed and an additional 75 have been damaged. All evacuations remain in place.
