Kern County Supervisors have been told not to expect more money for the upcoming budget despite the rising price of oil.
The board had hoped increasing the assessments on oil fields would help make up the difference after two years of big losses, but Assistant Assessor Lee Smith says the increase will have little effect and will not be enough to stop the five-percent cuts to all departments.
The base price of a barrel of oil is expected to go up $2 to $37 next year.
