CEDAR FIRE LATEST

The Cedar Fire burning in the mountains northeast of Bakersfield has grown to more than 21 thousand acres. All evacuations remain in effect. Movement of the fire towards Wofford Heights was slowed Tuesday because there hasn’t been much wind. Incident command says the fire reached dry grasses instead of dead trees which is easier to control when there’s no wind. Getting firefighters on the ground around high fuels like dead trees is virtually impossible, but the Forest Service also says fire in dry grass can run very fast when there’s wind.
