A man is in the hospital with major injuries after he was hit by a car while crossing a busy street early Monday morning. Police say the accident happened around 3:30 at Fairfax Road near Dorsett Drive in northeast Bakersfield. The driver is reportedly cooperating with officers.

Roads in the area were closed for a couple hours while detectives investigated.
