The Bakersfield Fire Department is sending out their annual warning about turkey frying safety precautions.Trouble can happen when deep frying the Thanksgiving turkey. Battalion Chief Anthony Galagaza says they get calls every holiday season for fires caused by careless cooks. He advises not to use water to put out any fire that may happen because the results can be explosive, he urges to have a multi-purpose fire extinguisher handy before deep frying a turkey. Otherwise, make sure turkey is thawed, not wet. Don’t let oil get too hot and that fryer is not too full. EASE turkey into oil. DO NOT have fryer near structures or by overhangs. Never let children or pets near fryer and don’t leave it unattended. Otherwise, you may find yourself inviting the Battalion Chief and his friends over for Thanksgiving.
