NOT THE SUMMER BLOOMS YOU WANT

Warning signs are up at Kissack and Paradise coves on Lake Isabella for blooms of toxic algae. The Public Health Department expects there to be more blue-green algae growing in the summer heat, and it may be found right next to moving water like the Kern River. The toxins can cause various irritations and flu-like symptoms, adults should make sure children and pets keep away from any water that looks suspicious. The most common appearance is blue-green, but can vary from bright green to red to black.
