Arson investigators are trying to figure out how several grass fires were sparked at the same time on Highway 65 near Famoso Road.

The Quail Complex Fire started around 12:30 Thursday afternoon, and County Fire Captain Jason Knaggs says they called in dozers, helicopters, and air tankers to douse all 1,626 acres.

The fires threatened homes, livestock and oilfield equipment before it was put out.
