The California Department of Corrections is investigating the shooting death of an inmate from Kern County. 38-year-old Jamie Mardis was struck by a guard who was trying to break up a knife fight at a Sacramento prison last Friday.

Mardis was behind bars for robbery and making a weapon in prison.
