Kern County firefighters are trying to determine the cause of an early morning fire that killed a young child and injured three other people who were living in an east Bakersfield storage unit.

Smoke and flames were coming from the structure behind a vacant market on Sterling Road and Monterey Street when crews arrived around 12:40 Wednesday morning. The other children were also hurt.
