BPD says there won’t be any changes to their call for service response protocols due to the coronavirus.
From BPD For Immediate Release March 12, 2020
Following recommendations from the Office of the Governor of California, the Bakersfield Police
Department is taking precautionary measures in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus).
The purpose of these measures is to ensure the health and safety of our community members and
public safety officers.
At this time, there will be no changes to any of our call for service response protocols. As a reminder, we
have telephonic and online reporting systems in place to aid in responding to service requests that are
not emergencies, or that are no longer in progress. The community is encouraged to continue to use
these reporting platforms in order to preserve public safety availability for emergencies.
As always, if you need immediate police assistance, the fire department or medical aid, call 9-1-1. For
non-emergencies, please contact the Bakersfield Police Department Communications Center at (661)
327-7111. The online reporting system is accessible on the Bakersfield Police Department’s webpage:
www.bakersfieldpd.us.
Effective immediately, the lobby counter services at the Bakersfield Police Department Headquarters
(1601 Truxtun Avenue) and at our Westside Substation (1301 Buena Vista Road) will be closed until
further notice. We are currently working on alternatives to ensure that we are accessible, and deliver the
necessary services to our community.
We will be postponing all department sponsored community events, programs and presentations through
March 31st
. All civilian ride-a-longs, and police building tours are postponed as well. If you have
questions about community events you have planned with the Bakersfield Police Department, please call
(661) 326-3053 or email [email protected].
We are requesting the public’s cooperation when they call emergency services to alert public safety
personnel if they have symptoms consistent with COVID-19. This will assist units in responding in an
appropriate manner to prevent the spread of illness. The Kern County Public Health Department has not
reported any confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the City of Bakersfield, or Kern County.
The Bakersfield Police Department is monitoring the situation closely while working in partnership with
our local, state, and federal partners to ensure the safety of our community and employees. Public safety
is our number one priority. We want to thank our community for their understanding and cooperation as
we all do our part to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
