The Bakersfield Police Department has arrested a man after he crashed into another in south Bakersfield.

On Friday, May 13th, 2022, at 12:26 AM, Bakersfield Police officers observed a BMW driving recklessly in the area of South H Street and Planz Road; however, they lost sight of the vehicle and while attempting to relocate it, found it had been involved in a collision at White Lane and Hughes Lane with a Toyota Camry. The adult male driver from the Toyota Camry sustained major injuries from the collision and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The adult male driver of the BMW sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
Investigation revealed the driver of the BMW was under the influence of alcohol and a suspected controlled substance. The driver of the BMW is identified as Christian Valencia (25) of Arvin. Valencia was arrested for DUI and vehicular manslaughter. He will be booked into the Kern County jail after he is released from the hospital.
The identity of the decedent will be released by the Kern County Coroner’s Office after notification of the next of kin.
