Kern County’s brand new assemblywoman hit the ground running after being sworn in, introducing a bill that fulfills a major campaign promise to go after fentanyl. Dr. Jasmeet Bains says AB 33 will create a statewide task force with experts on all sides of the problem. “Law enforcement, our prosecutors, district attorneys, school board members, addiction specialists, health care specialists, and community members to be at the table to effectively give us what we need to do to control the fentanyl crisis.” Bains is physician and addiction specialist. She says other areas of concern in District 35 include illiteracy in Kern County, and our high rates of poverty and homicide. SuzG
