A former Stallion Springs cop accused of sexually abusing a child has returned to Kern County. James Best, Jr., 53, was been booked into Lerdo Jail Monday after being transported from Maine to California. He was arrested in Maine in August after prosecutors say the alleged victim told authorities Best sexually abused her from the ages of 9 to 14. Best reportedly admitted to sexual misconduct in a pretext phone call but was unable to remember details. He and his wife were sentenced to felony probation after pleading no contest to stealing from Stallion Springs’ Police Activities League which Best directed from 2017 to 2019.
