Coroner Releases Name of Man Who Caused Fatal Crash

The Kern County Coroner’s Office has released the name of a man who allegedly drove a speeding car that caused a fatal wreck in east Bakersfield. Authorities say Javier Hernandez, 29, of Wasco, was ejected from the vehicle when it crashed into a Bakersfield police car at Kern and Niles streets October 13, 2024. His passenger Krystal Reynaga, 26, was also killed and a boy, age 2, suffered major injures. Two BPD officers were also hurt. Police say the accident happened when Hernandez ran the stop sign at Niles Street.
