A Bakersfield man accused in the death of a toddler who was left inside a hot car will stand trial on involuntary manslaughter charges. Lorenzo Johnson, 39, will also face child cruelty, possession of a gun and ammunition by a felon, pimping and pandering charges after allegedly leaving 20-month-old Dream Shorter inside a car in September. Johnson reportedly told investigators he forgot about the boy after going inside his house on Squire Lane to get a gun in order to shoot some people who were harassing him. The child was left inside the car for four hours and was pronounced dead at the scene. At the time of his arrest, Johnson was out on bail for a case in 2022 in which he’s charged with pimping and pandering.
