activist to stand trial

An activist accused of threatening the Bakersfield city council with death will stand trial. Riddhi Patel, 29, was arrested at a council meeting April 10 after allegedly criticizing security measures during the public comment portion of the meeting. She reportedly claimed the measures were retaliation against protesters who demanded the council pass a resolution for a ceasefire in Gaza. Patel allegedly told the council, “We’ll see you at your house, we’ll murder you.” A judge on Tuesday set a trial date of January 27, 2025 for Patel who faces several counts. She’s free on $500,000 bail.
