Hundreds of Kern County residents remain without power and thousands more could see their lights go off as strong winds increase the danger from wildfires. Electricity to more than 580 Pacific Gas and Electric customers was turned off at around 11:00 p.m. Sunday in the Lebec area for what’s known as a PSPS, a public power safety shutoff, expected to last through Tuesday night. Southern California Edison has nearly 18,000 customers in the Tehachapi and Lake Isabella areas under consideration for a PSPS which is expected to last until Tuesday evening. The National Weather Service forecasts wind gusts between 40 and 45 miles per hour in Kern County through Tuesday night.
