California state Assemblywoman Dr. Jasmeet Bains, D-Delano, would keep Cal-Fire fully staffed year-round rather than on a seasonal basis. Assembly Bill 252 comes in the wake of the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles County. Bains says staffing the agency throughout the entire year makes sense with the constant threat of disasters including not only fires but also floods and earthquakes. Bakersfield.com reports the bill was submitted Wednesday and Bains says she already has support from fellow lawmakers, some of whom didn’t realize Cal-Fire hired only seasonally.
