A lawsuit has been filed over the death of a man struck by a Bakersfield Police Department vehicle. The suit alleges negligence on the part of police in the crash that killed Brandon Flores, 27, on South Union Avenue last year. It also alleges the city failed to keep the roadway safe. Police say Flores was hit around 3:30 a.m. on June 17 near the 1500 block of South Union Avenue by a patrol car driven by Officer Julian Garcia as Garcia and his partner were headed to an auto theft in progress downtown. The vehicle’s emergency lights and siren were not activated. The suit was filed in December on behalf of Flores’ 4-year-old daughter and her guardian. A dollar amount wasn’t attached. A hearing is scheduled for April 4.
