Bakersfield city leaders want a plan in place to avoid the type of devastation happening from the wildfires in Los Angeles County. Vice Mayor Manpreet Kaur has asked city staff to draft Bakersfield’s first fire master plan including the construction of another fire station. The city council on Wednesday approved the purchase of two new fire engines and heard a briefing by city fire officials on the city’s fire readiness. Kaur wants the new station to be built in a growing area of town in south Bakersfield. Bakersfield.com reports other council members echoed Kaur’s calls for a master plan and asked for planning around the city’s joint powers agreement with the county and future staffing for the public safety department.
