suspected dui driver allegedly admits to drinking alcohol

A search warrant filed by the Bakersfield Police Department shows the driver involved in a fatal collision that left a married couple dead in southwest Bakersfield admitted to drinking alcohol before getting behind the wheel.

The document shows Anabell Correa, 21, told investigators she drank two 24-ounce cans of Twisted Tea at around 10 p.m. on March 15, hours before Sunday morning’s wreck that killed 30-year olds Max and Desiree Mooney at the intersection of Stockdale Highway and Coffee Road.

Police say Correa displayed signs of alcohol impairment at the time of her arrest and had a blood-alcohol content above the legal limit. Police say she was also driving without a license.

Correa was arrested in 2023 for public intoxication.

She faces homicide charges.
