A 36-year-old man convicted of murder outside the Foods Co. in east Bakersfield has been sentenced to fifty years to life in prison.

Adrian Sanchez Jr. was sentenced Friday after his conviction in March on charges of first degree murder and drug possession while armed with a loaded gun.

Sanchez shot Chad Reeves, 31, in the parking lot of the grocery store on Haley Street in January 2021.

Surveillance video captured Sanchez approach Reeves’s car with a gun and reach through the driver’s side window. He fired a shot which struck Reeves in the heart.

Two other suspects were implicated in the crime: Christopher Herrera and Andi Queen, who pleaded no contest in 2021 to accessory charges.
