trio arrested for ebt fraud

A trio of suspects has been arrested in Northridge, CA., after investigators allegedly found evidence relating to EBT fraud, some of which occured in Kern County.

Norbert Karaba, 34, Nicolae Bud, 51, and Giorgio Marcelo, 29, were apprehended April 10 when investigators from the Kern County District Attorney’s Office along with LA County law enforcement served a search warrant in Northridge.

Agents allegedly found card skimming and pinhole camera components, card readers, cloned access cards, and over $40,000.

Karaba’s charges stem from an arrest in December 2024 after investigators monitored EBT activity in the south Bakersfield area and identified Karaba as the person withdrawing funds from the ATM.

The DA’s office reportedly seized 78 cloned EBT cards and nearly $64,000 in cash.
