A 36-year-old Arvin woman is dead and two other people hurt after a van hit a car near Sunset Middle School.

Robert Rodriguez with the California Highway Patrol said it happened just after 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Highway 184 and Sunset Boulevard south of Lamont.

“The van struck the vehicle broadside on the driver side, killing the driver of the passenger vehicle instantly,” he said.

The van then veered into a dirt field, broke through a fence and struck a car at the school, Rodriguez said.

Speed and drugs appear to not be factors in the crash. The woman’s name hasn’t been released.
