Supervisors have approved plans through 2020 that would spend about $7 million during the fiscal year beginning in July on affordable housing projects and infrastructure in unincorporated Kern County.
Planning director Lorelei Oviatt says it can be tough for people to find a place to live.
“Even with out voucher system, we still have 11,637 people on waiting lists – veterans, disabled indiviguals and families who cannot find housing,” she said.
The county is currently providing some funding for a housing project under construction in Lost Hills. Projects are also proposed for Tehachapi and Bakersfield.
