The girl who died after being found in a residential swimming pool north of Thompson Junior High School on Hallisey Court in southwest Bakersfield has been identified by the Kern County Coroner’s Office as one-year-old Alayah Padilla.

Police say the girl was rushed to Memorial Hospital before 9 p.m. Monday. She died Tuesday morning.

The Bakersfield Police Department is investigating the death.

Danny Brown with the Bakersfield Fire Department says Padilla’s death is the second pool drowning in Bakersfield this year. Four died from drowning last year in the city, he said.
