SHERIFF’S DEPUTY WHO ESCAPED LOCKED PATROL CAR TAKES PLEA DEAL

Former sheriff’s deputy Edward Tucker, whose escape from a locked patrol car at the Bakersfield jail was caught on video, has pleaded no contest to charges of pointing a gun at two girls, and driving a car and using a firearm while high on meth.

Several other charges were dropped in the deal with prosecutors, which will see Tucker serve up to a year in Tulare County jail and a year in a drug treatment program. He also has a lifetime ban on owning a firearm and purchasing ammunition.

He was on a leave of absence for injuries when he was arrested three times in one week last October.

Defense attorney Kyle Humphrey spoke to KUZZ News and says Thursday’s outcome is good for Tucker and the community because it gives him the opportunity to turn his life around.
