A Bakersfield preschool had to be evacuated and Wayside Elementary School was put on lockdown after a suspicious duffel bag was found near the Kern County Fairgrounds.

The bomb squad determined the bag was not explosive Tuesday morning, but Police Sgt. Damon Youngblood says they erred on the side of caution.

Streets in the area were reopened to traffic around noon.
