The Kern County Sheriff’s Office says a popular telephone scam is making the rounds again.

There have been several reports of callers being told they owe money for active warrants and will be fined if it’s not paid immediately. The crooks even provide ID numbers and names in some cases.

A news release says the department never asks for payments over the phone.
