The Onyx Fire near Lake Isabella has destroyed a home and a duplex apartment and burned up a hillside, but is being held to about 200 acres at last report. Kern County Fire Captain Tyler Townsend says the fire began around 5:00 Wednesday afternoon and moved away from the town towards a rocky hillside that didn’t have much vegetation.

Three adults and six children have been displaced, and three adults have been treated for smoke inhalation at a local hospital. The American Red Cross is helping those without a home get temporary housing.
