Bakersfield police used a rope to lasso a man who jumped into a canal.The man wouldn’t come out and a negotiator had to be called in. The suspect was approached by officers around 9:30 Monday morning because he was trespassing but refused to drop a steak knife then leaped into the water near Kentucky and Williams Streets. BPD did not identify him but suspects he was under the influence of meth.
