Arson investigators are trying to figure out what sparked a fire that destroyed a four-plex in east Bakersfield.

20 firefighters had to be called to Monterey Street and Mount Vernon Avenue at 3:25 p.m. Thursday.

It’s believed the building was being occupied by transients at the time. No injuries were reported.
