A five year project to restore a two-mile stretch of habitat along the Kern River has begun.
Southern Sierra Research Station biologists, along with community volunteers, have been clearing dead wood from the south fork riverbank in Weldon and planting new willow trees to help several species recover from the drought.
The station is looking for more volunteers to help with the project, which is being paid for by a $300,000 grant. Those interested can call 760-378-3345.
