A Bakersfield man has been convicted of first-degree murder for shooting another man and leaving the body in an orchard near the Bena Landfill.

34-year-old Juan Lopez was caught at the California-Mexico border in March 2016, almost two years to the day Silvestre Soto’s body was found.

Lopez’s sentencing is April 5th.
