Kern High School District trustees took public comment on a new, majority-Latino voting district before the November election. Demographer Dr. Shelley Lapkoff has been helping the district do that but thinks it’ll be challenging. “We have to balance the population based on the 201 Census, but at the same time we know there’s been uneven population growth and housing growth.” One idea is to put Shafter, Arvin, Lamont and Weedpatch together, the board agreed to redraw the lines after a lawsuit was threatened.
