A suspected gang member has pleaded no contest to voluntary manslaughter for shooting a man outside a northeast Bakersfield apartment.

Deputies did not say why Christopher Valenzuela fired on Anthony Collazo two years ago on Water and Nelson streets. Sentencing is next month.

Co-defendant Alexander Gamez is still charged with first-degree murder.
