A report sponsored by the California League of Cities and other state agencies says Kern County is going to need $2.9 billion in pavement repairs over the next 10 years.

Margot Yapp helped assemble the report and presented the findings to the Kern Council of Governments on Thursday. She says more tax revenue must be generated.

“Roads are bad, they’re not getting any better, and we don’t have enough money to fix them,” she said.

She says the money probably won’t come from the state – to bring pavement conditions up to date, California agencies would have to spend $56 billion they don’t have.
