A Bakersfield man who had been facing murder charges for a drunk-driving crash that killed two people has accepted a plea deal. Martin Sanchez, 25, will spend twelve years in prison for slamming is Dodge Durango into the back of a car in the 1200 block of East Truxtun Avenue in September 2024. The wreck killed two people inside the car. Sanchez pleaded no contest Wednesday to two counts of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, DUI causing injury, driving without a license and no proof of insurance. The murder charges were dismissed. Sanchez told police he drank a 12-pack of Modelo 12-ounce cans before getting behind the wheel. He was arrested in Oakland last year on suspicion of DUI.
