CHP out in force for new year’s holiday

The California Highway Patrol will be on the lookout for suspected DUI and dangerous drivers Tuesday night. The CHP’s statewide Maximum Enforcement Period begins at 6:01 p.m. Tuesday and runs until 11:59 p.m. Wednesday in an effort to prevent drunk-driving crashes. Officers will target speeding, drunk, and distracted drivers and will look for seat belt violations. Highway Patrol officers made 892 DUI arrests statewide during last year’s New Year’s enforcement effort.
