gang member involved in killing released from custody

A gang member who pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the shooting death of a young Bakersfield boy is out of jail. Jeremy King, 32, was released from custody Thursday after being sentenced in 2019 to six years behind bars after the death of Kason Guyton, 5, who was accidentally killed in a gang-related shooting on California Avenue in February 2017. King and Jonathan Knight, 35, were members of the West Side Crips. They shot into a vehicle carrying Guyton in retaliation for a confrontation with rival gang members at Valley Plaza Mall. Knight was sentenced last October to life without parole for the killing.
