The California Highway Patrol is looking for help finding a woman responsible for a hit-and-run crash that left a man dead in north Bakersfield. It happened July 12, 2024 on Universe Avenue west of North Chester Avenue when a Nissan Pathfinder struck and killed Michael Long, 34, who was walking westbound on Universe Avenue.
The CHP reports the suspect vehicle is believed to be a gray or dark gray Nissan Pathfinder which was traveling westbound Universe Avenue, west of Chester Avenue, at an undetermined rate of speed.
Investigators were able to get surveillance video from various locations showing a gray Nissan Pathfinder drive through the crash scene at the time of the crash. After the crash, the Nissan Pathfinder was seen on video surveillance entering the Walmart parking lot on North Chester Avenue and West Day Avenue.
CHP says the driver, identified as a woman, got out of the Pathfinder and paid for several items at the self-checkout register.
